The Rice Raiders still have some sports action despite the arrival of the end of the school year. Rice athletics is in the midst of playing through the summer football schedule as the Raiders compete in the Rice League 7 on 7 football season. Starting on May 16, the Rice 7 on 7 team has already hosted three separate events and competed in a fourth as May comes to a close. Their season continues to pick up momentum as they continue to make their way through the schedule and vie for a chance to play in the state playoffs.

The Raiders start off the month of June with a competition on the month’s first day. Rice hosts the season’s second state- qual i fying tournament with the winners claiming an automatic bid to the state tournament later in the season. After the Raiders compete for a chance to claim their spot at state, they will host another regular season tournament on Tuesday, June 6. The Raiders will get their third and final chance to qualify for state later that week as they travel to Ganado for another state-qualifying tournament on Saturday, June 10. The season hits its final stretch following that competition as the Raiders have just two regular season tournaments scheduled for the following weeks. Rice hosts their penultimate tournament on Tuesday, June 13 before returning to the field a week later on June 20 to get what they are hoping is a final tune-up before the state playoffs begin. The turnaround for the Raiders is quick as they will have just a few days to rest after their regular season finale before a potential appearance at the state tournament.

If the Raiders reach the 7 on 7 state tournament, they will be competing in College Station in the final weeks of June. The tournament is two consecutive days of competition starting on Thursday, June 22 with action finishing on Friday.
