CJHS Student Council earns statewide recognition

COLUMBUS – The Columbus Junior High Student Council has been recognized by the Texas Association of Student Councils for outstanding achievement in leadership, service, and activities that serve to improve the school and community.

COLUMBUS – The Columbus Junior High Student Council has been recognized by the Texas Association of Student Councils for outstanding achievement in leadership, service, and activities that serve to improve the school and community.

The CJH Student Council were recognized in the areas of Outstanding Student Council; Drugs, Alcohol, Safety and Health (DASH); Pride and Patriotism; and Energy and Environment. CJHS StuCo has also been recognized as a Sweepstakes Council for the submission of its Community Service Report. Kasey Peikert has also been nominated by the Region 14 Student Councils as nominee for the Middle Level Advisor of the year.

TASC has 1,166 member schools. Of those, Columbus Junior High School is one of only 244 student councils statewide to receive this highly esteemed honor, according to a release. Student council members develop proven skills in team building, problem solving, project planning, and decision making. Through their co-curricular activities, student council members serve their communities while strengthening their academic and civic skills.

TASC is a non-profit serving high school and middle-level student councils in Texas. Sponsored by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals, its purposes are to develop leadership abilities in students, promote democracy as a way of life, and uphold high standards for local councils, according to a release. TASC members work daily to make schools a place where students and staff want to be and leave our world better than they found it. With almost 1200 member schools, it is the United States largest state student council organization.
