SCHULENBURG – The Alliance for College and Career Student Success will offer a special oneday camp at Blinn College – Schulenburg Campus on Thursday, June 8 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

The Day Camp is being provided for sixth and seventh graders and fifth graders who have not had the chance to participate in the “If I Had a Hammer” program, according to a release. The HammerBuild transports students out of the classroom to have an on-the-job experience. Throughout the build, students learn the value of math application, goal setting, teamwork, and workforce development skills. The HammerBuild provides an educational day that students will never forget. In two hours, students work together using hammers, drills, tool belts, and goggles to build a house large enough that the entire class can get inside. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to explore careers with Virtual Reality, along with other fun, group activities.

The organization said there is a $10 fee to participate with a few exceptions. Students from La Grange Independent School District who wish to participate will be sponsored by the generosity of the La Grange Lions Foundation. Schulenburg Independent School District students are being sponsored by the Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce. Scholarships are available in special circumstances. The organization said all students will receive a t-shirt and lunch.

For information and to register, contact ACCSS Program Support, Regina Schramek, at 979-743-5214 or [email protected]. Payment may be dropped off at Blinn College - Schulenburg Campus, 100 Ranger Dr., Schulenburg, Monday Friday between 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
